Norway is widely regarded as the home of the Viking! Famed for raiding villages and countries all across Europe. They possessed a wild and crazy temperament and relished a good old fashioned battle! A Norway adventure isn’t to be missed, here are some reasons why we feel you need to experience this amazing place…
Our Norway Adventure with the Wall Street Journal
Ironically, today Norway is more associated for Hygge, a rather ambiguous Norwegian word meaning sharing time, happiness and food with good friends. A little less of a confrontational way of life these days compared to its fiery ancestor’s philosophy of general domination!
I talk a lot about the simple pleasures and in Scandinavia it’s a way of life. Hygge is even written into the Norwegian constitution. No wonder Norway has been consistently voted the happiest nation in the world!
Scandinavia is unlike central Europe, the landscape is incredibly dramatic, encompassing mountains, glaciers, and deep coastal fjords. You will also find a nice slice of Norway sits proudly within the Arctic Circle. A perfect spot for seeing the famous Northern Lights, mushing your own husky dog sled team and if your feeling really brave…a spot of Arctic bathing (they tell me it’s really good for you, apparently!)
At Momentum, we love Western Norway, a region of stunning fjords that cut into the mountains with huge waterfalls cascading down them and glaciers that never seem to melt. You can overnight in a luxury yurt or lighthouse on a remote island. The landscape is incredible, perfect for mountain biking, e-biking, hiking or chartering a traditional Viking ship and enjoy the silence as you sail and paddle by kayak through the fjords. Combine this with the wonderful local food and fresh seafood plucked straight from the ocean and you have a truly spectacular Norway adventure.
You might enjoy soaking up the spectacular architecture in the capital of Oslo, a city of serene green spaces or the slower pace of life of Norway’s coastline with it’s colourful wooden houses and the passing orca, whales and dolphins. There’s always something new to do on a Norwegian adventure! All this combined with the wonderfully hospitable locals and you have found the perfect place to experience the extraordinary!
